The Gaol is open from Thursday to Sunday each week – admission to the Gaol is via a guided tour (see below) or via hiring The Gaol.

Visit Boggo Road Gaol on a guided tour through Number 2 Division – the source of roof-top protests and home to “lifers”.

Number 2 Division is as it was when it shut down in November 1989.

The tours provide commentaries and stories on the accessible parts of the Gaol (please note that for safety reasons some sections are currently inaccessible).

There are five themed tours available at regular scheduled times:

THE HISTORY OF BOGGO ROAD GAOL TOUR

  • This 90 minute Tour includes time to explore one of the original cell blocks.
  • The History Tours are run at 11:00am Thursday to Saturday and from 9am Sundays – arrive 15 minutes before start time, tours commence right on time.
  • The History Tour is suitable for all ages.

EX-INMATE/EX-OFFICER TOUR

  • This 60 minute tour is guided by former prisoner or officer.
  • The Ex-Inmate / Ex-Officer Tours are run at 10:15am and 11:30am on the first and third Sunday of each month – arrive 15 minutes before start time, tours commence right on time.
  • Please note some of the stories you will hear involve strong concepts and mature content – and therefore suitable for those aged 15 and over

ESCAPES TOUR

  • This 60 minute tour of Boggo Road Gaol examines in detail some of the dramatic escapes from Number 2 Division. We visit the actual places where desperate men implemented their plans and went over the wall.
  • The Escapes Tours are run at 10:15am and 11:30am on the second and fifth (where applicable) Sunday of each month – arrive 15 minutes before start time, tours commence right on time.

GRAFFITI TOUR

  • This 60 minute tour explores some of the images scrawled across the walls of Number 2 Division. In the 1980s prisoners expressed their frustrations, anger, pain and humour on the surfaces of Number 2 Division in the form of graffiti.
  • The Graffiti Tours are run at 10:15am and 11:30am on the fourth Sunday of each month – arrive 15 minutes before start time, tours commence right on time.
  • Please note some of the graffiti you will see involve strong concepts and mature content – and therefore suitable for those aged 15 and over

THE BOGGO ROAD GAOL GHOST TOUR

  • This 2 hour tour looks at some of the creepy ghost stories of the Gaol.
  • The Ghost Tours are run at 7:30pm Wednesday and Sunday nights, and two tours on a Friday night at 7:00pm and 8:00pm, of each week (as well as Saturday nights when available) – arrive 15 minutes before start time, tours commence right on time.
